Circus Twist

I had decided that i wanted to include flowers into this theme and entwine them in-between my drawings of acrobats and circus performers. However i don't want to just use flowers that look natural and real, so i researched in the library through the books on flowers and found one on The Anatomy of Flowers by Arthur Harry Church. I feel this style will provide the quirkiness that i want to achieve. Here are some examples.

Daniel Heath

Below are two of his wallpaper designs that are silk screen printed and hand made.

I really think these are beautifully illustrated and really inspire me to make my own compositions up like this to create wonderful patterns.

First Cut Exhibition - Paper Dresses

Today i went to visit the paper dress collection at Manchester's Platt Hall Costume Gallery. I really found these quite spectacular. The dresses were created beautifully and it just makes me think about all kinds of questions like how were they constructed so precise, detailed and how were they taken off the mannequin once complete? I have noted down the names of the makers and i intend to further research this as it is possible i would like to maybe consider this method and display a paper dress of my own design for my final show. Below i have attached images from the exhibition.

These dresses were created by Susan Stockwell

These Dresses were created by Violise Lunn

International Spring Fair

I have registered to go to the International Spring Fair where i will be able to see current Artist/Designers and recognised companies exhibiting their work. This will enable me to gain ideas on whats happening in the market place.

Final Degree Show Options

Today i had a discussion with my tutor to reflect on last semesters work and discussing how to move forward aiming to achive final products for the final degree show which i will take part in this May/June and to then take to exhibit at New Designers in London.

I would like to make my degree show look like a window display, Within it i would like to create a wall hanging that could be considered for interiors, such as wall paper, also i would like to make my own origarmi gift boxes and giftwares, and finally a dress whhich i am undecided wether it to be made out of paper or fabric. It was suggested that paper would be a good idea as the rest of my exhibition will be paper products that all releate to show paper patter that suggests it can be used for wallpaper, gift wrap etc..

I am happy with these ideas and am excited to get started. I have thought about how i can put these ideas into practice and contacted the likes of companies such as Fab Lab in Manchester to register to use there equipment for the laser cut doilies i want and i have contacted Anstey Wallpaper Company to see if i can arrange to visit there studio and factory. This has been a success as a really nice lady contacted me back and has allowed me to book in for Thursday 7th Febury. I have also contacted Graham & Brown, but not yet had a reply, i will keep you posted about that.

Christmas Vacation

Whist i have been of over the christmas Vacation it has allowed me time to consider ideas towards my plans for the next semester on how i can move forward to develop my theme further. With discussion with my tutors before the end of term, i decided to contine with the Ballet as a collection and to draw more figures in different poses and styles and to recreate my hand made design using paper doilies by using this idea to create my own doiles using differnt patterened lace to create this. Also it was metioned to look at the circus and pantomine as added collections. I really like this idea and i have been able to visit the Peter Pan pantomine at Manchester Opera House and Cinderella at St Helens Theatre Royal and also i went to see the Blackpool Tower Circus. I thoroughly enjoyed these and i am looking forward to drawing ideas form these visits. I also came accross the Cirque Du Soleil whilst searching on the internet, This looks fantastic and i will also interpritate this into my work aswell. I am also going to continue to adapt my collection on the Venice and Rio Carnival.
