Making A Start

I have now started to draw and paint onto worksheets. I have really become enthused by my them and am enjoying the variety of ideas it's providing me with to draw from. I am going to add pictures below as i complete my work sheets to keep you up to date with my progress.

With this worksheet i am creating motifs and pattern ideas that can the be produced further when i continue designing on Adobe Photoshop.

Ideas Towards A Final Collection??

Although i really enjoyed the Hallmark module, in designing giftware and stationary, im torn between making the decision of  making my final collection Interior or Giftware based?? I really enjoy and have strenghs in pattern design rather then the embroidery side of things and want my final collection to look the best it can. I have been looking at Designers Guild for inspiration and love their collections. It would be really nice to design my own wallpaper and co ordinating furnishing.
Here are some of the collections that caught my eye:

Colour Palette

This is one of the colour palette's that i will be using, i am going to try and work with different themes being:
* Theatrical costume designs, stage sets and miscellanious research that i have come across from the posters and programmes i have collected.
* Architectural drawing from the theater buildings.
* The text used within all the programmes, posters and advertisement.

For each of the theme i would like to introduce a new colour palette.
Hopefully this will give me a good source of drawing material to start designing with on the computer.

The Final Year!

scary.... Can not believe i'm here, from having doubts about weather to return to further education or not, to now approaching third year, absolutely crazy. Where does time go?

I have had to pick a theme that has an interest to me and would be suitable for my chosen topic for third year. With this theme i have to research as much as possible to give myself a good selection of inspirational drawing material. Along with this i need to select an appropriate colour scheme that would work collectively to what i am aiming to design for e.g fashion, interior, giftware etc. 

I have decided on the theme of Theatre & Performing Arts. I managed to source a lot of research on this topic from costume design, stage sets, current and past programmes, architectural imagery etc.. 

I went to London to view their collection on Theatre and Performing Arts and was able to get lots of primary evidence to support my research, also I visited  Manchester Palace Theatre on the off chance of been able to speak to somebody and was actually really lucky and was allowed to view their archive collection of programmes and posters. 

Now i'm happy with my research i have began to draw and paint. I will update soon with pictures and further info. :)

Hallmark Competition Continued

With a good collection of drawing and paintings, i was able to create quite a lot of designs to be used as gift wares. I displayed my work as collections on boards showing the relationships are similar but slightly different.

Here are my Final Designs which I showed To Hallmark. I am also pleased to say that i did win placement with Hallmark, meaning i get to spend two week with them in their design studios. Although being in third year now and not wanting to take that much time away from my work, i am going to go next year in when i have completed my Degree. I am really excited and can't wait to go!

Hallmark Competition

As part of our second year semester module it was to complete a working collection of gift wares including cards, gift wrap, gift tags, stationary etc.. I chose to work with the theme Botanical Blooms. From this point i wanted to collect as much research as possible to support my inspirations. I visited London National History Museum, they hold a Botany collection in an archive, i also went to Liverpool World museum who also hold a Botany collection and i used journals like blooms magazine. Having collected my research i felt it was time to start drawing and painting. I wanted to create as many worksheets as possible to use in my design work for the collections of gift wares i were to create. I really wanted to gain the opportunity of been seen and picked for placement by hallmarks design team who were to come at the end of the module for us to present our collections to them explaining our ideas and inspirations to them.
