Productive Visit To John Lewis

On Friday evening i took myself off to the Trafford Centre to collect some visual research ideas of giftware's/stationary and wallpapers. I took plenty pictures which i will attatch below. I wanted to look at the composition, layout and placement of the pattern on the products and wallpaper. I did notice that alot of the papers were floral but i can still use these to consider the organisation for how i can construct my own designs.

I spent quite a lot of time looking through the wallpaper catalogues. I really like one by Pip Studio, There wallpaper samples were very eye catching and vibrant. The layout and organisation of the designs was quite different also which was what attracted me to it. Here are some examples.

Pip Brocante Wallpaper €145 per roll

I liked how the above wallpaper example has all the different sections of different motifs, none overlapping or touching. It looks really neat. Personally to me thought it has a little too much going on and on a large surface area could be too much.

Pip Birds In Paradise White Wallpaper €42.95

I like how this wallpaper above has the rainbow curls in the background with burst's of coloured pattern above. It is a pretty wallpaper and quite subtle.

Pip Dutch Glory Wallpaper €145 per roll

Pip Art Blue Wallpaper €145 per roll

The two wallpapers above are very busy and have strong colourways. There is so much to look at i find my self questioning what am i looking at? I don't know where to start. I think these would be nice to highlight a small surface area as a beautiful feature.

Pip ABC Wallpaper €93

Pip Royal Couple Wallpaper €199

This wallpaper above was quite different i thought because you can see the beautiful delicate pattern in the background with a bordered bottom and then this large single motif in the middle.

Pip Feeling Papergood Wallpaper €290

Pip Embroidery Blue Wallpaper €93

I like how this wallpaper has the repeated stripe in the background and then the floral pattern in colour above. This could make a really nice organisation to consider.

Whilst i was there i wanted to look at how a few displays were arranged to get ideas for presenting my work in my degree show and at New Designers.

I really like the white cabinet display it looks very minimal and modern showing a variety of products. I also really liked some of the shapes of the gift box's and bags, which i will go back and purchase so i can use them to look at the net to create my own.
